My journey at Proxio Systems has just begun, but the link between transport emission calculation and the transport procurement industry is now stronger than ever.
Coming from the freight tendering industry and as the founder of TenderEasy, capturing transport emissions was a key focus when we built our SaaS tool in 2012. Unfortunately, we quickly realized the market was not ready.
Back then, companies were not considering emissions during freight tenders. Prospects listened politely to our ideas but focused primarily on price, service, and reliability. Few were willing to invest in sustainable transport.
A New Era in Transport Procurement – Powered by Sustainability
But things are changing! In recent years, the urgency of global warming has been acknowledged by business leaders, politicians, and decision-makers. Companies now recognize the need to reduce their carbon footprints to address climate change.
Leading companies of today will only remain leaders if they shift to sustainable business models. In the EU, the CSRD legislation will require large companies to report emissions starting in 2025, covering the year 2024. Many companies I’ve spoken with now list sustainability as a top priority — an exciting and positive development.
During my later years at TenderEasy, I saw growing interest in sustainable transport solutions. Here are a few examples:
- At a customer event, a client shared their success in switching to HVO-only transport contracts for domestic distribution, valued at 5–10 million EUR annually.
- A leading steel company chose a greener solution and established a partnership with their logistics service providers (LSPs).
- Several customers tendered emission-friendly alternatives—comparing HVO vs. diesel and rail vs. road—allowing them to meet both emission reduction targets and budget goals.
These examples are just the beginning, and I’m excited to witness this transformation happening across industries and geographies.
